“What do we want to live and make live?
At the beginning of 2024, Claire-Noël and Thomas Le Saulnier (co-directors of La Fausse Compagnie) cast off from their sedentary lifestyle in the north of the Vienne region, and set off on the road with their mMm…
Attempt to be resident artists (in the sense of inhabitants) rather than artists in residence. Let ourselves be impregnated by a territory and its inhabitants, go out and meet people, dare to do things for the first time, offer our sensitivity and our presence. We choose to say yes to all invitations. The ephemerality of our presence gives us this spontaneity.
Giving life to who we are, receiving and welcoming others with their talents and passions as a gift of life. Take the time to infuse. To be curious, to challenge our habits, to deepen our understanding of human nature in all its diversity. Conviviality is essential, offering people the chance to meet (at café crémaillères, for example).
Choosing to live in a 20 m2 space changes our perception of the world and our relationships. This invites us to lead an outward-looking life, a little more so than when we lived in homes with enough space for our various needs (office, rehearsal room, etc.). We revisit the interconnected nature of things and people, and our needs are transformed into opportunities for encounters. For instance, we are organising the storage and safekeeping of our musical instruments in people’s homes, by setting up an art library that travels from living room to living room, based around our Stroh instrumentarium. Another example is that we don’t have a washing machine, so we swap a few loads of washing with our neighbours in exchange for sharing some musical moments (while the machine is running…).
Behind these meeting experiments, the aim is to re-establish our trade on a more local scale, with the eventual possibility of organising our tours in a way that is more consistent with our aspirations (ecological and philosophical).
Timing
We set up our facilities over a period of 3 months in the same place, before hitting the road again. We are therefore not subject to town planning regulations. There is no impact on the site after we leave. If the stages of this tour are carried out in collaboration with a host organiser, we can plan to stay in the same area on a slightly larger scale (6 to 9 months) , with 2, 3 or 4 stops.
The technical installation of the ‘mMm’ requires around 2 days to set up or dismantle (installation of a solar panel, compost, sanitation, etc.).
When it comes to the question of locations and the resources (financial and technical) required for this type of territorial immersive residency, the best thing to do is to get in touch with us to discuss how our respective adventures might intersect.
A few thoughts on the first artistic residency in Guerlesquin, at the invitation of Le Fourneau, CNAREP de Brest (29) and with the support of the Parc Naturel Régional d’Armorique and the city of Guerlesquin.
